Vertica, a provider of analytic database management systems, announced that its award-winning Vertica Analytic Database has been added to NASA's Scientific Engineering Workstation Procurement IV (SEWP IV) Government-wide Acquisition Contract through a reseller agreement with Technica Corporation, an innovative provider of high-quality IT solutions for both government and commercial networks.
Vertica's blazingly fast performance will allow US government customers the ability to run real time queries on the enormous amounts of data its agencies and Department of Defense branches manage. The unique underlying architecture of Vertica delivers hundreds or thousands of times better performance than traditional databases while also dramatically reducing the total cost of ownership. With its superior data compression capabilities, applications can be run on a small fraction of the hardware required by other solutions.
"Technica seeks out the most efficient and cost effective solutions for its government customers," said Brian Jones, Technica's Director of Strategic Alliances. "Because of the large amount of data involved in these analytical database applications, the performance benefits and cost savings of Vertica can be substantial."
SEWP IV allows federal agencies and their authorized contractors to buy products and services without having to secure multiple quotes in an RFP procurement process. Because the contract has already been pre-competed, government customers can quickly and easily purchase Vertica software. All US government civilian agencies and Department of Defense branches can procure Vertica solutions through the Technica SEWP IV Contract #NNG07DA29B.
"A new breed of analytic database vendors has joined the industry with many focusing on tools surrounding open source database software offerings. Vertica took a different approach by redesigning the database in light of today's computing environments, making it fast, affordable and scalable on industry standard servers and storage," said Christopher Lynch, President and CEO of Vertica. "We architected the solution from bottom up, recognizing that the real time data analysis needs of the US government cannot be satisfied by databases based on older architectures."
