Compact Solutions, a premier solutions provider specializing in enterprise information management solutions, recently announced the release of MetaDex for the IBM InfoSphere Information Server. This technology makes it possible for metadata from ETL, ELT and BI applications built using a diverse set of tools to be integrated into the InfoSphere Information Server. This solution enables customers to use InfoSphere Metadata Workbench to manage enterprise wide metadata in one single repository, regardless of what ETL or ELT tool they use. Customers with diverse ETL and ELT tools (such as Ab Initio, Informatica, DataStage, Teradata Bteq, Oracle, and other SQL scripts) can perform end to end data lineage, and impact analysis across databases, ETL/ELT applications, and BI tools, enabling better data governance.
“Customers require a holistic, integrated view of their data assets regardless of what ETL or BI technologies they use. Compact’s MetaDex for InfoSphere Metadata Workbench is the only solution that gives customers the power to integrate metadata not only from any major ETL tool (Ab Initio, DataStage, Informatica) but also any SQL scripts (Teradata Bteq, Oracle, DB2 etc), with metadata from different databases and BI platforms” said Pankaj Agrawal, Compact’s CEO and CTO. “Once integrated, customers can perform end to end data lineage and impact analysis regardless of databases, ETL or BI tools in use. This then serves as a robust framework for data governance”.
Compact has targeted its MetaDex technology to meet the data governance needs of information hungry organizations that collect, manage and report from diverse data sets. “Companies use different tools to transform their data, store it, and analyze it. Metadata is fragmented in the individual tools making it difficult to do end-to-end data lineage and impact analysis. This adds to the development time. This also makes it very difficult to implement any kind of data governance program. Integrated metadata is essential for efficient data governance just as integrated data is essential to data warehousing,” Agrawal adds.
